Phil was born and raised on a dairy farm in Wiltshire. He studied veterinary medicine and zoology at the University of Bristol, qualifying in 2005. He worked for two years in mixed practice in Herefordshire then went travelling for a year, including a stint working with Cape buffalo in South Africa. In 2008 he started on the route toward specialisation in small animal surgery with an internship followed by a residency at a large multi-disciplinary referral centre in Hampshire. He has a certificate in general small animal surgery and the RCVS diploma in small animal orthopaedic surgery.

He has published widely and is a regular presenter of continuing professional development for general practitioners on a wide range of small animal orthopaedic subjects.

Having joined A30 Referrals in January 2020 Phil aims to provide an excellent quality service for small animal patients with all manner of orthopaedic disease. He especially enjoys management of complex fractures and angular limb deformities and is also interested in optimising outcomes for cases with more routine joint diseases such as patellar luxation, cranial cruciate ligament disease and hip and elbow dysplasia.

In his free time Phil likes to run and swim alongside his two children and is a regular on the beaches in Cornwall.
